Configure teams and labels
Teams and Labels are the two ways you organize Items by who owns them and how you want to slice them. A Team is a group assigned to an Item—it powers the Team board and grants its members access to the Items they work on. A Label is lighter: a colored tag you apply for filtering and grouping. Both are managed by an Admin under Settings, and both show up across every view once they’re in place.
Teams#
Strategy Hub doesn’t keep its own team directory. Most Teams come from Jira—the people and groups you already manage there—and you can also create a few that live only in Strategy Hub. Open Settings → Teams to see both kinds, grouped on one screen.

- Internal teams — Teams you create in Strategy Hub. You manage their members here.
- Jira teams — Teams synced from your Jira site, each marked with a Jira badge.
Jira teams and internal teams#
Jira teams carry their name, avatar, and member list straight from Jira. Membership is read at sync time, so a change you make in Jira—someone joins a Team, someone leaves—shows up in Strategy Hub after the next sync. Sync Jira teams runs that sync on demand; it also runs on a schedule, so the list is usually current.
Internal teams are the ones you create here with Create team, for when your strategy work doesn’t line up with how Jira is organized. An internal Team has no Jira counterpart and you manage its members in Strategy Hub, but it behaves identically everywhere else—you assign it to Items, its members get access, and it groups the Team board the same way a Jira Team does.
Assigning a Team to an Item#
You assign a Team from the Item itself, in its Teams field. Assigning a Team does three things:
- It groups the Item on the Team board, under that Team’s card.
- It grants the Team’s members access—on a default-access Item, members become Collaborators automatically. See Access and permissions.
- It clears the “no Team” flag—an Item with no Team assigned raises an Insight prompting you to give it one.
Labels#
A Label is a colored tag you apply to Items to filter and group them. Where a Team says who owns an Item, a Label is free-form—use it for a theme, a quarter, a workstream, anything you want to slice by later. Open Settings → Labels to manage them.
Creating and editing Labels#
Each Label has a name and one of ten colors. Create label adds one—pick a color, type a name, and save.

Editing a Label, whether you rename it or recolor it, updates every Item it’s applied to at once. Deleting a Label removes it from every Item; Strategy Hub asks you to confirm first.
Applying and filtering#
Apply Labels from the Item’s Labels field, which takes as many as you like. Once applied, a Label shows on the Item across the views that display it—Portfolio cards, Overview rows, and the Item header. Because Labels are built for slicing, you can filter by them on the Overview and the Portfolio board.
